Summary

As a pediatrician, Katrina Ubell, MD, always struggled with her weight--she was either 40 pounds overweight, or struggling to lose that weight。 Although she'd regularly counsel parents on the importance of keeping their kids healthy and fostering good eating habits, Dr。 Ubell, as a busy professional, was never able to do the same for herself。 Like everyone else, she tried many different diets and programs, but would always regain the weight。 In 2015, Dr。 Ubell cracked the code for making weight loss permanent, and developed a program targeted at busy physicians like herself who often de-prioritize their own wellness。 As a weight loss coach, Dr。 Ubell has helped over 1,000 busy physicians and professionals find and stay at a healthy weight with her brain-based program, and is now ready to bring this program to the general public。 Dr。 Ubell's program doesn't involve any unrealistic diets, plans, special foods, supplements, or even rigorous exercise protocols; instead, she uses a deep understanding of the brain and behavior patterns to get results。 Through her work, she has been able to uncover and speak into the universal obstacles that stand in our way of losing and keeping off weight。

Every person I know wants (maybe even needs) to know How to Lose Weight for the Last Time。 Will this book fulfill that promise? The book takes the stance that weight gain is caused by the mind-not the stomach。 Therefore, only by looking at the reasons why you overeat, and correcting them, will you finally lose weight for good。 The author used a life coach, which worked great for her。 Will it work for everyone? This book can literally change your life by empowering you to change your mind and thoughts。 I started listening to her Podcast, which was geared toward helping physicians like myself。 I have been listening and following her recommendations for months, and I’ve been able to not only change my thoughts and feelings about food, but also apply it to many challenges in my family and work life。 I’m simply a happier person now, thank you Dr。 Katrina! Her approach is cognitive behavioral therapy based。 It’s an incredibly powerful tool, and something I think we have been missing in our medical approaches to treating patients (and ourselves) with eating and weight issues。 I take care of patients that are post-weight loss surgery frequently。 Many of them continue to struggle and be overweight despite their clear commitment and desire to change their lives。 Why is that? I believe it is because they are missing this fundamental piece。 If treat the body but not the mind, then long term success and freedom from the weight gain and loss cycle is unlikely。 This is that piece that I have long felt was missing。 I’m grateful to have it in book form in addition to the great podcast! Her approachable and relatable style from the podcast continues in her book。 Her teachings have been invaluable to me, and I think they will be to many others as well。 。。。more

This book closely resembles the Noom program for weight loss。 The psychological aspects of weight loss are thoroughly covered。 The downfall, I believe, is the complete restriction of flour and sugar。 Though this is a sure way to lose weight, it is unrealistic for the majority of the people。 It is also based on a study involving only women。

Dr。 Ubell writes in a down to earth way that explains things using science, but I can also understand it even though I am not a doctor。 In this book she dispels myths about food and eating and also encourages each of us to listen to our bodies。 She ties in the importance of our minds and how we think, the stories we tell ourselves, and how much that impacts what we do。 Her work here gives me hope that I can figure out what is going on with my body by listening to it and working with it not fight Dr。 Ubell writes in a down to earth way that explains things using science, but I can also understand it even though I am not a doctor。 In this book she dispels myths about food and eating and also encourages each of us to listen to our bodies。 She ties in the importance of our minds and how we think, the stories we tell ourselves, and how much that impacts what we do。 Her work here gives me hope that I can figure out what is going on with my body by listening to it and working with it not fighting against it。 。。。more

I have been listening to Dr。 Katrina's podcast for a little over a year, and in that time I have learned SO MUCH。 I have realized that I use food to dampen my emotions, and I have learned that the single most important part of a true permanent weight loss journey is managing one's mind。 I have lost 40+ pounds so far, and after having the opportunity to read the Introduction and Chapter 1, I know that this book is exactly what I need to help me keep going, and to make this the LAST TIME that I ha I have been listening to Dr。 Katrina's podcast for a little over a year, and in that time I have learned SO MUCH。 I have realized that I use food to dampen my emotions, and I have learned that the single most important part of a true permanent weight loss journey is managing one's mind。 I have lost 40+ pounds so far, and after having the opportunity to read the Introduction and Chapter 1, I know that this book is exactly what I need to help me keep going, and to make this the LAST TIME that I have to lose weight。 。。。more

This book and podcast are life changing。 Dr。 Ubell dives into the “real why” of our weight struggles。 Our thoughts, unconscious beliefs and a disconnect from our bodies true hunger signals cause overeating and unhealthy weight gain。 Very well written and understandable by all。 For those committed to a permanent healthy weight and relationship with food, this book is for you! Highly recommend。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I’ve read a sneak peak of the intro and chapter 1 of this book and have followed the author’s podcast for years。 I’m so excited to get my full preordered copy of this work。 Her model, thought work, and hunger scale examples are very clear and while not immediate to master, have made a huge difference in how I relate to and mange food and emotions。

Katrina has found a way to communicate what we’ve all been missing - how to develop a relationship with food that is no longer hurting us。 In doing so, weight loss happens in a healthy, sustainable way。 But even better, you learn so much about yourself by bringing the foundations that she writes about into action in all areas of your life。 Definitely a must read!

I received an early copy of Katrina's new book。 I can honestly say, I've never read a book that unpacks our relationship with food so in depth。 The practical tools and prompts have already changed the way I think about food and the way I eat。 I love the emphasis on brain-based solutions。 As a male who is serious about my health, I make it a point to choose right habits around eating and sleeping and exercising, etc。 Katrina has increased my self-awareness and therefore my success around food。 I received an early copy of Katrina's new book。 I can honestly say, I've never read a book that unpacks our relationship with food so in depth。 The practical tools and prompts have already changed the way I think about food and the way I eat。 I love the emphasis on brain-based solutions。 As a male who is serious about my health, I make it a point to choose right habits around eating and sleeping and exercising, etc。 Katrina has increased my self-awareness and therefore my success around food。 。。。more
